SUMI TEMAE SET FOR FURO
E12 Sumi Temai Set for Furo
You do not need this for ryakubon temai or the brazier for the tetsubin (binkake). This set of goodies comes into play when you start working with the furo (see furo page for details).
CONTAINS: Charcoal Basket ( sumi tori), feather (habooki), lifting rings (kan), iron chopsticks (hibashi), paper kettle rest (kami kama shiki), woven kettle rest (kumi kama shiki)
We are working on a set of fake charcoal to practice with. One company used to sell plastic coated charcoal here in Japan but too many people acidently put in on burning coals and the fumes were beyond comment. They stopped making it. Ours will be a different color at least and now we are testing various materials.
We are also working on reasonable prices for charcoal. Its the time needed to wrap each piece that is not available or affordable.
If anyone wants charcoal we can process a few sets at a time. Any more requires a longer wait. Each piece must be wrapped in plastic bubble paper then a new box ordered then packed and shipped. We have not been able to figure out the cost exactly yet. We also do not know how this will hold up in shipping, but it probably should. The precise problem is that when the charcoal is cooked the bark and core seperate so there are spaces between them. The bark is softer and much easier to break. However the bark is necessary for your fire as it catches fire more easily and acts as a starter thus insuring a healthy fire.
