The following teas are listed by plantation (alphabetically). Teas for thick tea (koi-cha) and thin tea (usu-cha) are listed on separate pages. Tea blends preferred by various Grand Tea Masters are listed with the school name first then the grand masters name then the special name of the tea. These are called konomi teas and have an asterisk * before the listing.
For people who are not studying Chanoyu, any of the following teas may be used to make an excellent bowl of whipped tea or ice cream.
Here is the rule of thumb. The mildest and/or sweetest teas are the more expensive ones. The less expensive the tea, generally speaking, the more harsh/bitter/grassy the taste may be. All of these are blends.
What you like is very personal. For me and my flighty taste buds and moods all of them are OK at some time. I have, over the years tried them all.
See the link on the store front page for instructions on making matcha tea.
There are so many that I have put Koicha and Usucha on separate pages. Click the links below to go there.

A lot more detail will appear in the next update, but let me briefly introduce you to the plantations whose teas we offer.
GION TSUJIRI
Downtown in the center of the geisha district is the location for the main store. They have been producing Uji teas and selling them for over 100 years. In my humble opinion there matcha ice cream , candies and desserts not only bring tears of delight to your eyes but keep you up and running for the rest of the day or night.
GOSHO NO EN
This is a fine example of an old store which sells its plantations products near the corner of the Imperial Palace. It is the only one in this lot of plantations which has not rebuilt the shop. It stands as is since its creation about 100 years ago, with a new tile roof and at a very slight angle.
MARUKYU KOYAMAEN
This store is humbly tucked away in Uji but has the impact of Mount Fuji. The Japan Tea Growers Association awards annual prizes for teas of superior taste. This plantation has walked away with almost all of the gold prizes yet again this year. Yet another over 100 year old gem.
RYUU-OU-EN
Again over 100 years old , this store is located near a street named Teramachi. Teramachi means Temple quarter and it really was. The land along the Kamo river was given into the care of various Buddhist temples by Hideyoshi which used to line the banks of the river. Nowadays some of the temples are gone and the remaining ones are intermixed with antique shops, sweet shops and this very impressive tea shop.
