An itomaki is a flat, curve-sidded bobbin for thread. Such a thing was given to Sen Sotan by empress Tofukumon-in and has since become a favorite motif/design element in utensils.

These are the "ash trays" for the tabakobon. A tiny bit of water in the bottom puts out the small ball of tobacco which is smoked in a tiny pipe called a kiseru.
