The Doll Festival or Hina matsuri falls on the third day of the third (lunar) month, nowadays the third of March. Here are two special bowls for that time.

The Hina Matsuri is also known as Momo no Sekku, the Peach Flower Season. My cooking teacher, the mother of the present Musha no Koji Senke Oiemoto remembers when this festival was full of Spring warmth and flowers (because it was celebrated in April). Now it is fairly dismal weather, still the slush rain season. Check your own area and see which calander is best!

J05 YAMABUKI BOWL
Overglaze Enamel on White
Yamabuki are a type of thornless 'wild roses'. The flowers come in yellow or white, single or double. The species name is Kerria. Easy to grow here.

Fukujuso is a yellow flower that blooms in the snow. It has aquired the meaning of "Prosperity & Longevity. A perfect match for the season.

The main flowers are yellow dandilions (tompopo) with violets (sumire) and horsetail sprouts (tsukushi).
